Middleburg Academy prizes the strength of its teaching staff. A remarkable 86% hold advanced degrees, including masters and doctorates from such highly regarded institutions as Columbia University, Harvard University, MIT, George Mason University, The George Washington University, Virginia Tech, the City University of New York (CUNY), Morehouse College, and the University of Paris. Approximately 60% are certified to teach college-level courses here on campus, either as Advanced Placement (AP) course instructors or as teachers of our Dual Enrollment (DE) courses through the Virginia college and university system.
In tangible terms, this means your son or daughter might study college-level physics with Ann Reimers, who earned her bachelor and masters degrees in mechanical engineering, and then a doctorate in electrical engineering from The George Washington University. In Freshman Seminar, he or she may study major world religions with Marjorie Kuzminski, who has a masters in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. Or your student could receive outstanding college writing preparation from the Chair of our English Department, Jonathan Cook, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard, as well as an MA and Ph.D. in English from Columbia University.
That the vast majority of our teachers hold advanced degrees is more than just another striking statistic; it also explains the high standards established in our classrooms. It similarly informs our understanding of the academic expectations of the leading colleges and universities in which many of our students enroll (see our recent college acceptances).
