Wayne Paige has attained a remarkable record of teaching. For forty years, he has helped high school students explore their interests and talents in a variety of visual arts media. Under his direction and encouragement, an impressive number have gone on to study at such preeminent institutions as the Corcoran College of Art and Design, the Royal Academy of Art (London), the Pratt Institute, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Architectural drawing classes he established twelve years ago – then unique in a college preparatory school setting – introduce students to the skills and techniques involved in this exacting profession. Mr. Paige’s recent graduates are currently studying architecture at Cornell, the University of Virginia, the University of Colorado, and Virginia Tech; others are now professionals in the areas of Industrial Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Space Planning.
In addition to guiding students who have already realized some sense of joy and accomplishment in the visual arena, Wayne Paige has also found great fulfillment in drawing-out those who may not have initially felt an interest in, or aptitude for, the subject. “As a teacher, I work at nurturing the imaginations of my students so that they can approach each assignment with enthusiasm,” Paige has explained.
An active professional artist, his work has been shown in New York and at galleries and museums throughout the country.
