Larry Blount is a Ph.D.-level biologist who in his spare time writes science fiction novels for young adults. Dr. Blount keeps his labs and lectures lively, never passing up a chance to use common technology in his classroom (power point presentations, ipads, laptops, and smartphones with cameras) in an ongoing effort to keep students “informed about rapid changes in science and its applications to our everyday lives.” In addition, Dr. Blount has been instrumental in supporting Middleburg Academy’s effort to present a broad-based, Dual Enrollment program. Unique among independent school’s in the region, DE allows students to secure college credits for the most advanced-level courses taught right here on our college preparatory campus. Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Blount and his faculty colleagues, many Middleburg Academy graduates arrive for their freshman year at college with several credit requirements already satisfied.
In addition to writing science fiction, Dr. Blount enjoys reading literature of all kinds and spending time with Hazel, his “lovely wife of thirty-five wonderful years.”
