“The faculty and staff have been so nice to me.  They have helped me a lot in getting started on campus,” enthuses Middleburg Academy’s new science teacher, Jie Cui.  “This safe and supportive environment” has already made a firm impression on this newcomer, who has also remarked that Middleburg Academy students have a lot of freedom and responsibility for scheduling and carrying out their studies.

A native of China, Ms. Cui describes herself as “a teacher with two sides.  I am very strict with my students’ studies and exams,” she explains, “but at the same time, I am also flexible with their individual learning methods and homework assignments.  All in all, I just want to find the best way for each and every one to learn.”  Jie Cui’s teaching style is not confined by any one textbook, and she looks forward to sharing with students her own supporting materials and challenging problems.  “But,” she gamely adds, “I will receive emails almost 24/7, so that students can reach me whenever they need help.  Of course, I will eagerly meet during school hours, too!”

Jie Cui grew up in Tianjin, China’s third largest city.  When not teaching, she loves dancing (and has been taking lessons the past five years), traveling and music.  She is recently married and her husband, whom she met while at Virginia Tech, is also Chinese and an engineer.  “He is a very nice person, a real gentleman, and I really appreciate the new life he has given to me.”
