College Counseling & Placement

Middleburg Academy is a college preparatory high school with a 100% college acceptance rate.  In recent years, our students have been accepted by such colleges and universities as Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Dickenson, Georgetown, James Madison, Johns Hopkins, Juilliard, the Naval Academy, Notre Dame, Tufts, Vanderbilt, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, the College of William and Mary, and Yale.  See the complete list.

Our College Counseling Program is structured to assist each student in obtaining multiple college offers that best represent their academic abilities, personal preferences, and financial situation.  Every effort is made to ensure that each student matriculates to the school of his or her choice and is thoroughly prepared to be successful once there.  Families are guided through the college placement process both generally – through orientation sessions and a Middleburg Academy-authored, comprehensive Guide to the College Search – as well as individually, in multiple, one-on-one planning sessions.  In addition to the Annual College Fair each spring, the school also hosts approximately 100 college admission representatives who come to campus in the fall to meet our juniors and seniors.

Middleburg Academy requires that each student be accepted by a college.  We believe that the college selection and application process is in itself of value to maturing young adults. They must reflect on their strengths and weaknesses, identify their subject areas of interest and aptitude, and think about their personal aspirations.  They learn to present themselves honestly and positively, in person and on paper, to the world beyond high school.  Much of this is accomplished in the year-long Junior Seminar.   In that class, students delve into the process of identifying appropriate college choices, understanding in detail the requirements for application and admission, complete the Common Application (now used by nearly all the colleges our students apply to), and plan and polish two college application essays.  In addition, all juniors receive an overview of preparation for the SAT.
